In 2016 the Children’s Court in Broadmeadows established a Koori Family Hearing Day, known as Marram-Ngala Ganbu, meaning ‘We are One’. The Marram-Ngala Ganbu Koori Hearing day aims to improve outcomes for Koori children involved in child protection proceedings by providing a culturally appropriate process to assist in decision making.
This session will be presented by Ashley Morris, Koori Services Coordinator at the Broadmeadows Children’s Court. The session will discuss the development of the Koori Hearing day, challenges faced in setting up the court and the future of Koori Hearing days in the Family Division.
Who is the training for?
The training is for child protection staff of the Department of Health & Human Services, Child Protection Litigation Office and Victoria Legal Aid, Children’s Court staff and private solicitors and barristers practising in the Children’s Court Family Division.
The session is capped at 80 people. Places will be allocated in order of registration.
